Today is National Kentucky Day!

Did you know that Kentucky was the 15th state to be granted statehood, and it was the first state west of the Appalachian Mountains to join the union?

We’re known as the bluegrass state… and if you’ve ever seen a field of bluegrass, you know exactly what I’m talking about!

Appalachia in the fall... isn't it stunning?Kentucky is full of amazing resources, and I happen to think our landscape is absolutely stunning. From the Appalachian Mountains to the rolling horse farms with pristine white fences, we’re never short of trails and places to explore.

My studio, where I make all the soaps for Hyssop Tree, is located in Kentucky. In fact, I’m really close to Fort Knox, Churchill Downs (where the Kentucky Derby is run), and Mammoth Cave (the longest cave system in the world). I love the ability to be so close to all this, and yet still enjoy my wonderful neighbors and a small community that reflects the genuine kindness and friendships of the South.

hyssop tree soaps are kentucky proudHyssop Tree soaps are part of the Kentucky Proud program, which helps connect consumers with products that are raised, grown or made in Kentucky. When you buy a Hyssop Tree soap, you not only make a difference by providing a soap to someone in crisis, you also support many local farmers. It’s a pretty awesome way to make an even bigger impact!

If you’ve never had the chance to visit this beautiful state, I hope you’ll consider stopping by. The landscape is stunning and the neighbors are friendly.

Happy National Kentucky Day!

When my husband and I were dating, we had some ground rules to establish.  One of those was exactly what I expected on Valentine’s day.  I thought it was pretty simple, really.  I didn’t want flowers, I didn’t want chocolates… in fact, I didn’t want anything.  And that’s exactly what I got.
