One of my resolutions this year is to be more encouraging. I can’t think of a better way than to find ways to compliment others. I’d like to invite you to join me on this month’s challenge. There are 3 ways to compliment others that I’ve listed below. Throughout the month on my social channels, I’ll mention 4 different situations you may find yourself in over the next month when it would be perfect to slip in a compliment and encourage someone else.
By the way, National Compliment Day is January 24th. Would you pick one of the three ways below and join me on the 24th to make a difference in someone’s day?
Introvert: If talking to others makes you want to run and hide, this might be a good option for you. Give a compliment to a friend of someone you know who’s been working hard to change something. Change is hard for everyone, but we all know someone who’s fighting their way through a situation. Send them a text, e-mail, or social message to let them know what a good job they are doing, and let them know you are there for them.
Extrovert: If you love talking with those around you, this options might be perfect for you. This is also the option that I’ll be revealing over the next 4 weeks. Compliment with intention everyone you encounter that you don’t know (of course, you can compliment your friends, too!). There are people all around us that go un-noticed, but people struggling through everyday life. A kind word can make a big impact.
Going Deeper: If you want to do more than just say something nice, this option is for you. You’ll want to spend some time in preparation thinking about what you want to say (and even consider writing them down). Choose someone you love – someone that you are close to – and set some time aside with that person and share everything you appreciate about him/her. Instead of spreading your efforts across many people, you can really give someone the encouragement he/she needs.
Sometimes we don’t get to see the full impact of a kind word. That doesn’t mean it didn’t have an impact. If you got lucky and were able to see some of the impact of your kind words, I’d love to hear about it! Share your story in the comments below.
